Specialist courier service for delicate, fragile and high-value items. Blanket wrapping, secure loading, careful driving and a dedicated vehicle that carries only your shipment. Fully insured, with signed proof of collection and delivery.
Get a QuoteStandard courier services are designed to move parcels quickly and cheaply. They work perfectly well for robust, well-packaged items. But when your shipment is fragile, irreplaceable, or extremely valuable, standard is not good enough. A shared van with dozens of other parcels, multiple depot transfers, and automated sorting conveyors is a recipe for damage. One careless stack, one sudden brake, one rough handler, and your item arrives broken.
Maine Couriers' fragile item service eliminates these risks entirely. Your item travels in a dedicated vehicle with a single, experienced driver who has been briefed on the specific handling requirements of your shipment. There are no other parcels in the vehicle, no depot stops, and no transfers between drivers. From the moment we collect your item to the moment we deliver it, it is in the care of one person who understands exactly what they are carrying and how to protect it.
Our fragile item courier service handles a wide range of delicate and high-value shipments. Here are some of the items we transport regularly:
Every fragile item delivery begins with a conversation. When you book, we ask detailed questions about your item: its dimensions, weight, material composition, specific vulnerabilities, and any special handling instructions. This information is passed directly to the assigned driver before collection so they arrive prepared with the right equipment and knowledge.
Our drivers carry professional removal blankets, bubble wrap, foam padding and ratchet straps as standard. Fragile items are wrapped in protective blankets to prevent surface damage, then secured within the vehicle using straps and padding to eliminate any movement during transit. For items like glass panels or artwork, we use upright carrying techniques and A-frame supports. Nothing slides, nothing shifts, nothing bumps against anything else, because there is nothing else in the vehicle.
Drivers assigned to fragile item jobs follow our careful driving protocol. This means reduced speeds over speed bumps and rough road surfaces, smoother braking and acceleration, and avoidance of roads known for poor surfaces where possible. It takes slightly longer, but the item arrives in the same condition it left. Our GPS tracking allows you to follow the journey in real time and see exactly where your item is at any moment.
All Maine Couriers shipments are covered by our standard goods-in-transit insurance. For high-value items such as artwork, antiques, specialist equipment or prototypes worth significant sums, we can arrange enhanced insurance coverage tailored to the declared value of your shipment. Speak to our team when booking to discuss your specific insurance requirements and we will ensure your item is fully covered for the journey.
Yes. The painting travels upright in the cabin of the vehicle, cushioned on soft padding and secured so it cannot fall or rub. The driver will not place anything on top of it and will carry it into the home by hand. We can photograph the painting at collection and on delivery if you want a visual record.
Pianos, very large sculptures and oversized antiques are usually specialist jobs that require extra crew and specific equipment. We can handle medium-sized pianos (uprights and small grands) and can quote larger items on request, but we will always be honest about whether a specialist removal firm is the better option for the item.
Yes. On request we photograph the item before loading and again at delivery, and email the photos with the delivery confirmation. This is a useful record for insurance purposes and for auction houses, galleries and private collectors who want condition evidence.
All consignments are covered by our goods-in-transit insurance up to standard declared value. For items above that value, let us know the declared value when you book and we will confirm the cover level and any small additional premium needed. We recommend you also check whether your own fine-art or contents insurance covers the item in transit.
A parcel network is not designed for fragile items. Shared-load vans, conveyor sort belts and stacked parcels are all threats to anything breakable. Maine Couriers moves fragile, delicate and high-value items by dedicated vehicle — direct from collection to delivery, with no parcel on top, no sorting belt, and no drivers other than yours handling the item. Glass, ceramics, artwork, musical instruments, antiques, lab equipment: anything you would not want to hand to a multi-drop courier.
Fragile work is about preparation as much as driving. We pack the vehicle so your item is not competing with anything else for space, we use soft straps rather than ratchet binders, we brief the driver on the specific handling needs, and on arrival we do not hand the item to whoever signs the door — we hand it to the person who is going to take care of it. For high-value or irreplaceable items we can photograph the item at collection and delivery as a condition record, which is useful for insurance and for peace of mind.
Specialist handling, dedicated vehicle, fully insured. Tell us what you need moved and we will take care of the rest.
